Bril huis: Where Heritage Feels Like Home

Welcome to Bril Huis, our optometry practice in George.

After moving from Uitkyk into a beautiful older heritage home, we decided that the name Bril Huis was a much better fit. The space is also the home of our optometrist and partner, Danielle, and her husband, Willie, which makes the practice feel personal, warm and a little different from the usual optometry experience.

The home has a lovely sense of history and character, while the practice brings in the fresh, colourful and exciting side of Bril. It is a space where you can feel relaxed, explore beautiful eyewear and enjoy a more personal approach to your eye care.

For Danielle, Bril Huis is also a reflection of the things she loves: calm spaces, beauty, movement and the small moments that make life feel special.

We believe visiting the optometrist should be about more than simply checking your eyes or choosing a new pair of glasses. It should be a good experience from the moment you walk through the door.

Danielle Hendrikse
Optometrist

Danielle’s journey with optometry has been one of rediscovery and passion. Initially, she felt unfulfilled, viewing her work as routine. But joining Bril Uitkyk changed everything. Immersed in a space that values creativity and personal touch, Danielle reignited her love for optometry.

Alongside her is Deidre, the optical assistant, who plays a key role in keeping the practice running smoothly and helping clients feel welcome. Together, they ensure every visit is special. Danielle thrives on finding eyewear that enhances vision and reflects individuality, with Deidre by her side, making sure everything flows seamlessly. At Bril Uitkyk, they’re more than a team—they’re passionate about turning everyday tasks into extraordinary experiences.

Fun Fact

Danielle can still dance on her toes like she did in the “good old days” and has even taken a leap off the Victoria Falls bridge! Deidre, on the other hand, has won several beauty competitions in the Western Cape and can make incredibly beautiful clothes!
